Superman vs. Christ Essay -- essays research papers
ââ¬Å"Faster than a speeding bullet, stronger than a locomotive, jumps tall buildings in a single bound.â⬠Superman is known throughout the world for being the savior of a city called Metropolis. In every comic book, movie, or action figure ever presented to the public, Superman is a handsome, strong man who can defeat all odds at all times. The movie Superman was a success, showing how the superhero saved lives and yet lived a humble life. As one watches the movie, though, he might notice the many similarities between the plot of the movie and the story of Christââ¬â¢s coming. Superman, savior of the city Metropolis, mirrors the Savior of the world, Jesus Christ. Throughout the movie Superman, the names and the actions of the characters were similar to those of the Holy Bible. Two of the major name references to the biblical version deal with Superman (Kah-lel) and his father, Jor-el. In the Greek language, the name Jor-el means ââ¬Å"God,â⬠while the name Kah-lel means ââ¬Å"Little God.â⬠Another instance where the name game is played is in the case of Supermanââ¬â¢s parents, Martha and John. It does not seem as if there is any other way to make these names be closer to Mary and Joseph, who are the parents of Christ. Zod and Ursula are two other characters present in the movie whose names may not be similar to those in the Bible, but represent the devil and all that is considered evil. These are some of the examples of how the use of names plays an important role in linking Superman the movie to th...

Confederation and Constitution Essays -- Governmental American History
Confederation and Constitution After the American Revolution, a new government had to be established. The Constitution that was written took power away from the people. It led to rebellions from poor people and farmers. Daniel Shays, a former Revolutionary Army captain, led a rebellion with farmers, against laws which were not fair to the poor. They protested against excessive taxes on property, polling taxes which obtained the poor from voting, unfair actions by the court of common requests, the high cost of lawsuits, and the lack of a stable currency. They wanted the government to issue paper money, since it is cheaper then gold and silver coins. Once retired George Washington heard of this, he immediately went to Massachusetts to stop it. He was completely shocked to see the people fighting against the country which fought to free those men. ââ¬Å"What a triumph for the advocates of despotism to find that we are incapable of governing ourselves, and that systems founded on the basis of equal liberty are merely ideal and fallacious.â⬠(George Washington Expresses Alarm 1786) He said this to the rebels who then stopped and the rebellion was crushed. After Shays rebellion collapsed, the government realized that they need a new constitution and to strengthen the Articles of Confederation. This was a long and hard decision on whether to give the people the right to voice their opinions or not. Mixed views on the subject were given so it was very difficult to come to a conclusion. Mr. Sherman of Connecticut ââ¬Å"opposed the election by the people, insisting that it ought to be by the state legislatures. The people, he said, immediately should have as little to do as may be about the government. They want [lack] information and are constantly liable to be misled.â⬠(The Debate on Representation in Congress 1787). Mr. Sherman is saying that people should not have anything to do with what the government has to do. They only get information wrong and can be misled and misdirected into something that can be bad for the country. Mr. Gerry of Massachusetts believes ââ¬Å"the evils we experience flow from the excess of democracy.â⬠While Mr. Mason of Virginia ââ¬Å"argued strongly for an election of the larger branch by the people.â⬠The representatives of these states viewed different ideas on democracy. Some wanted the people to have more of a say while others wanted to... ...ystem is without the security of a bill of rights. These are objections which are not local, but apply equally to all the states.â⬠(Elbridge Gerry, Letter to President of Senate and Speaker of House of Representatives of Massachusetts, October 18, 1787). Gerry is saying that no government can represent the people, only the people can represent the people. Itââ¬â¢s not only in Massachusetts that this problem of representation, itââ¬â¢s all thirteen states. During the time the Constitution was written, the Founding Fathers believed the government was based on property. ââ¬Å"Men who have no property lack the necessary stake in an orderly society to make stable or reliable citizensâ⬠(The American Political Tradition). While John Adams said there could be ââ¬Å"no free government without a democratical branch in the constitutionâ⬠John Jay felt ââ¬Å"The people who own the country ought to govern it.â⬠This proves that there were many mixed feelings about the Constitution, but still, the power went ââ¬Å"from the many to the fewâ⬠. There are only a hand full of people that can run the country during the time the Constitution was written, and even today, but the ratio between politicians and ââ¬Å"farmersâ⬠is great.

A Fear of Looking Foolish
Humor is a read way to scatter the feeling of being foolish. Keep in mind that who you are being foolish in front of are humans and there isn't one of them who hasn't been foolish themselves. I agree in this quote ââ¬Å"Our wisdom comes from our experience, and our experience comes from our foolishnessâ⬠from Sac Guitar, it symbolized that being foolish is not bad as we know, it is the experience that made us more brave from our mistakes. One more quote that eve found on Google ââ¬Å"Its always the fear of looking stupid that stops you from being awesomeâ⬠fromKier Sacs, just remember that quote and try to relaxed and have faith on yourself when you are doing somethingââ¬âthen you'll just find that you made it through. The root cause of all our excellence, all our ability, is fear.. We are afraid afraid to look bad, afraid to make a mistake, afraid to look like a fool in front of others. So we make sure that we are prepared. We make sure we are in control. We like to do well at anything that we do, it is never a pleasure to be bad at anything. But it is fear, a deep fear that motivates us more than anything else. It's always the fear of looking foolish that stops you from being awesome so release yourself from the fear of being foolish. Know that there are times when it will happen. Deal with it with humor and move on. Whatever you do don't let the fear of looking foolish stop you from doing what you want to do. As far as I know, no one has ever died from looking foolish. Yes, it hurts on the ego, but does little other damage if we don't let it get to us.Always remember that looking foolish is all part of being human so onto be scared of looking foolish just be who you are don't mind what people might think to you. There is a lot to be learned from taking risk and not being perfect. Don't let the fear of making mistakes and looking awkward stop you from taking risks and living life to the fullest. We're going to mess up. We're going to make mista kes. We're going to break things. While we try hard not to do that, the glory, the hero within us comes to play not when we're perfect, but when we recover. Mistakes will be made, accidents happen, and you will screw up.

Do Young People Spend Their Time Wisely?
Leisure time can be well spent in many different ways. One popular option among the young is playing video games and watching television. While other activities like sports, social gathering and reading are available to them but many people feel that they spend too much time on these indoor games and screens and prefer them to be more active. To a certain extend I disagree that some of young people today use effectively their leisure time in productive activities. However, I also think that others spend hours on watching television and playing video games. Nowadays, younger generation has greater choices of leisure facilities than previous one. Among such facilities are television and video games. Some social experts and families are concerned about health of teenage on these activities. This is supported by some reports that sitting too long in front of television could lead to problems of eyes and back like watching television and playing computer games have tended to increase recently. On the other hand, some experts believe that some video games can improve their skills and this could help his or her future career like operating doctor or pilot. In addition, watching television keeps young audience inform about what happens around locally as well as globally. That would enhance teenagers' to more opened-minded and encourage them to keep eyes on challenging local and international issues. In conclusion, itââ¬â¢s not really a question of age. Old and young people can choose to use their time wisely or to eliminate. I hopefully we all can make choices that benefit in the long run even more or less. However, encouragement from parents and community may help supporting young people to spend their free time wisely rather than wasting their time on watching too much television and also playing games.

Changes in the American Federal Government from 1876 to the New Deal
On numerous occasions since the end of Reconstruction, the American political system has demonstrated its ability to adapt to changing domestic and foreign policy requirements, often by extending the reach of its power. An examination of the actions of the federal government during three periods (the Progressive Era, World War I, and the New Deal) reveals some of the new functions and responsibilities that the federal government assumed. In the years directly following Reconstruction, attention was necessarily focused on domestic matters.A shift from an agrarian economy to an industrial one created new sets of needs and expectations for the American population. Progressive era reformers, notably Presidents Theodore Roosevelt and Wilson, responded to these needs by calling for reform: breaking-up monopolies; addressing corruption; enacting laws to protect women, children, and the large immigrant population; overseeing food and drug safety; and establishing regulations for sanitation a nd hygiene. These reforms often required the establishment of new governmental institutions (for example, the Food and Drug Administration and the Department of Labor ). Many of these institutions are still in operation today. Beginning with the United Statesââ¬â¢ involvement in World War I, attention was redirected to foreign matters. Americans became increasingly involved in world affairs, not only through their involvement in the war efforts but also through the expansion of imperialist endeavors.Though these campaigns had begun earlier, they rapidly increased following the acquisition of Guam, the Philippines, and Puerto Rico in 1898. These actions extended the reach of the federal government to overseas territories. With the Great Depression, attention once again necessarily shifted to domestic matters. In order to alleviate the effects of the Depression, Franklin Roosevelt instituted massive changes referred to collectively as the New Deal. These policies included massive rel ief efforts for the employed, the establishment of a minimum wage, the creation of Social Security, and the expansion of federal regulation of agriculture, industry, finance, and labor relations. One major result of FDRââ¬â¢s administration was the government gained the legal power to regulate the economy. During much of his administration, FDR kept the federal governmentââ¬â¢s focus on domestic matters as he sought to enact neutrality legislation to keep America out of the war in Europe.vi It is significant that in times of economic crisis (such as those that directly preceded the Progressive era reforms and the New Deal), the federal government of this country turns its attention to combating corruption, regulating the economy, instituting public works projects, and enacting legislation that directly affects the lives of American citizens. In so doing, Wilson and F. D. Roosevelt focused their attentions primarily on domestic policy at the expensive of foreign policy.
